A new floor is not a diagnosis
If tiles are lifting, loose or broken, keep people away from sharp or unstable areas and arrange an assessment. Do not press raised tiles back down or cover the problem with new flooring simply to hide it.
Expansion and contraction can contribute to tile stress, but a photograph alone cannot establish the cause. Bonding, movement and the condition of the base may also need investigation. An SPC overlay is a flooring choice, not a repair for every underlying defect.
Record what has changed
From a safe position, take a wide photo and closer photos of the affected area. Note when it started, whether more tiles are affected, and any nearby dampness or recent work. Do not remove tiles yourself just to obtain photos.
Tell Wilson which rooms are affected, whether the home is occupied and what you want to achieve. Photos help prepare the discussion, but they do not replace checking the floor on site.
What the flooring assessment needs to establish
The team needs to assess whether the existing surface is stable and suitable for the proposed flooring, and what preparation is required. Discuss loose areas, visible moisture concerns, changes in height, doors and room transitions.
If there are signs of a leak, substantial continuing movement or wider building damage, the underlying issue may need a plumber, building professional or other relevant specialist before flooring work. A flooring survey is not a structural certification.
Can SPC be installed over the tiles?
Only consider keeping the existing tiles when the assessed base and preparation satisfy the selected product's installation requirements. Loose or lifting tiles should not be treated as a ready-to-cover base.
Depending on the findings, the proposal may require remedial work, removal or preparation before a new finish. Confirm responsibility for that work and its scope. Do not choose solely on a promise of no hacking or the lowest board price.
Choose the replacement after understanding the problem
Once the condition is understood, compare the suitable flooring options against your room use, desired appearance, upkeep and budget. SPC may be an option, but it should not be recommended automatically for every damaged floor.
